Communities of Practice

“Communities of Practice are groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly.” This definition is taken from Etienne Wenger’s website.

Etienne Wagner coined the phrase Communities of Practice in 1991 and expanded it in his book in 1998. In an interview, Etienne Wenger, gives an explanation of what is or is not a Community of Practice.

Further reading on the subject can be found at South East Coast NHS who have produced a number of eLearning programmes.
